I signed up for the Ride to Conquer Cancer without really thinking about the incredibly hard physical journey ahead of me. But it's nothing in comparison to the journey that some of my friends took last year (& in previous years at that). Their families had been devastatingly affected by cancer. A few of my other friends were actually diagnosed with cancer last year as well. So I knew I wanted to contribute in some way to help raise funds for cancer research - so that people who are diagnosed may have a better chance at beating it or receive less invasive or body altering treatments.
So I've signed up to ride my bicycle 200km in 2 days from St Lucia to Wivenhoe Dam & back again in August. Being how unfit I am right now that's a pretty big committment BUT, I have my health which makes my journey a lot easier than some.
The Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) needs funds to be able to continue to work on amazing breakthrough treatments for cancer. This research is not government funded so they are relying on us all!! It’s great news for everybody if we can raise enough funding for such projects! Especially since almost everyone has been affected in one way or another by cancer.
These days, just about all of us knows someone who is fighting cancer, someone who has fought cancer or someone who has failed to win the battle against cancer. Imagine if we could somehow change the latter situations. Or prevent it.
I plan on raising as much money as I can so that I & WE can make a difference to the future of cancer. Funds raised will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching & compassionate care at the QIMR, a worldwide leader in cancer research & discovery & one of the largest research institutes in the Southern Hemisphere. I'm pretty proud to be a Queenslander & know that we have something so special in our state.
But of course, I can't do it all on my own - that's where you guys come in! So, I'm asking you to donate some cash to the cause. Even just $2 or $5 would be so wonderfully appreciated. You can do so at http://br12.conquercancer.org.au/goto/Amy. It's definitely a great cause, especially since 1 of 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Cancer does not discriminate.
If you just want to follow my journey from now til August please do so on my Facebook page & twitter account - the more the merrier!! Tell your friends :) Perhaps you can get in on whatever exciting events I can organise in the name of fundraising for cancer ;)
So, thankyou for visiting & thankyou in advance for your help, support & encouragement! I'm gonna need it :)
